Performed by Newcastle Musical Theatre Company who brought you Kinky Boots and Grease, West Side Story is the iconic musical conceived by Jerome Robbins, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, it is set in 1950s Manhattan’s Upper West Side, then, a multiracial, blue-collar neighbourhood. It explores the rivalry between the Sharks and the Jets, two teenage gangs who vie with each other for dominance.
It is also a tragic love story between Maria and Tony, with beautiful music and dancing, and a pivotal theme to die for…
