National Theatre’s acclaimed production of War Horse is NOW OPEN!
Young people as part of Theatre Royal Youth Company (TRY) stand on a stage during a performance with blue lighting behind and smoke to make the scene more atmospheric.

Youth Company

TRY Youth Company is for young people aged 14-19 who are looking for a safe and welcoming space to explore their creativity, connect with others, as well as develop performance skills and learn more about theatre and the other roles required to create live performances.
Youth Company is designed specifically for young actors who want to develop their skills to pursue careers in performance. Youth Company members work together for a season of rep (repertory) and they will also prepare for and perform a large-scale main stage production of a brand-new play as part of our National Theatre Connections Festival here in March 2026.

Youth Company allows young people to learn new skills, develop their practice, learn more about theatre and the work required to create live performances, see live main stage productions and work as an ensemble towards staging an exciting new production alongside other visiting young companies.

Youth Company is delivered in weekly, 2-hour sessions (Tuesday evenings) with auditions held in September. It is held across 3 terms – Term 3 is optional.

Term One: Nov – Dec
Term Two:  Jan – Mar
Term Three: Apr – Jul

Throughout the 3 terms, Youth Company will create an ensemble, learn acting techniques, perform, work with visiting practitioners to develop core performance and industry skills, such as audition technique and voice and movement for the actor, to prepare them for further training or work in the industry.

Youth Company Members must audition for a place and membership includes professional training from industry professionals, performance on main stage and Youth Company visits to x2 main stage productions.
