The Studio
Our Studio is a space to learn, create and explore ideas. From training and development, to sharing and performance.
In our Studio we support, develop and present work of quality and integrity that represents the rich and diverse heritage and experiences of our communities, made by and with established artists and makers from these communities.
This includes creating and presenting work from our Creative Engagement programme, supporting new productions and remounts and commissioning research and development of potential new work.
We strive to be a creative hub in the city that allows for peer learning and support, nurturing and culture of shared opportunities and experiences to support career development and sustainability.
Studio Programme
Our Studio hosts curated small scale performances, outside of our own core programme.
We invite established artists and visiting companies to present their work to new and existing Theatre Royal audiences. We support all genres of professional theatrical performance and dance, including digital and multimedia work.
Open Door
We know that all work, at every scale, starts somewhere and that it can be incredibly difficult to access space and support to develop new work in its initial stages.
We have created an Open Door residency to support new and developing professional work and provide professional development opportunities for actors, writers, artists, designers and makers from the region.
Applications for Open Door are currently closed and will reopen in April 2026.
Eastlake Productions
Newcastle Theatre Royal has engaged Eastlake Productions to pilot its innovative Open Door talent development programme.
Led by Consultant Producer Jamie Eastlake, who will share his knowledge and experience to help mentor and support emerging North East talent.
