Applications for Project A 2026 – 27 are now open.

Project A is a full-time, year-long actor training programme for young people aged 18-25.

Our graduates have gone on to work as professional Actors, Directors, Writers, Stage Combat Specialists, Filmmakers and Producers. After graduating from the course, Project A actors have worked nationally and internationally, winning multiple awards for their work. Our graduates are an integral part of developing theatre and performance across our region and on a national level.

If you would like to train and be part of a course based at Newcastle Theatre Royal, developing your skills to enter the industry or go on to further train at a top drama school in the UK or further afield, Project A may well be the stepping stone that you need.

What our previous participants say:

Graduate Ryan Nolan, cast in principal roles in Oscar-winning 1917, the BBC’s BAFTA-winning The Left Behind, and as Aled in Amazon Prime Video’s new series Kill Jackie with Catherine Zeta Jones, said:

“I loved my time at Project A. It was eye-opening and drilled into me the work ethic I needed to succeed and how to balance everything. Working with Phil and practitioners was a priceless experience and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to train at the Theatre Royal every day. I couldn’t recommend Project A more.”
