Tours

The restoration of the theatre in 2011 reinstated the full 19th Century splendour of Frank Matcham’s auditorium and we are delighted to be able to share this with visitors. As the theatre is a busy, working environment, we can only take bookings for tours outside of rehearsal and performance times. We deliver both public and private tours, each providing the opportunity to explore unseen areas of the theatre, giving a glimpse of what goes on back stage.

We are currently unable to take bookings for tours.

Public tours

Public Tours are delivered on Saturday mornings throughout the year and can be booked online. The tour lasts up to 90 minutes and costs £10 per person.

At present we do not have any tour dates scheduled but when we do you will find details of dates and times, as well as a link to purchase a place, on this page.

Private tours

Private tours allow groups of up to 30 to visit the theatre and get a glimpse of life backstage at Theatre Royal. These tours are for groups and school visitors but also make an excellent gift for a celebratory experience for individuals, friends, family and smaller groups.

Private tours can take place Tuesday – Friday (or on a Saturday morning when no public tour is scheduled) outside of rehearsal and performance times. Our standard tour lasts up to 90 minutes but we can provide bespoke visit packages upon request, including extended visits and the addition of afternoon tea. Standard visits cost £84 per group.

Private tours are available Tuesday – Friday (and Saturday when no public tour is scheduled).
