Summer School is back for 2022!
We are delighted to be able to host our annual summer school again this year with 6 weeks of activities for young people aged 5-19.
This year, we also have opportunities to perform on the main stage at Theatre Royal through our 6 day long Musical Theatre and Playing Up Courses.

Play in a Week
A musical? A comedy? Our young performers will decide. 5 days to create a brand new piece of theatre before performing for an invited audience in our Studio theatre on day 5.
We have two Play in a Week courses running this year for two age groups:
Ages: 5-7 and 8-11

TRY Drama for 8-14s
5 days of discovery for those with an interest in Theatre and making. This week is all about behind the scenes and learning what it takes to make theatre happen. TRY is suitable for young people aged 8-14.
We have two TRY courses running this year:

5 Day Film Challenge for 11-17s
If you’ve ever had a burning idea for a film script, are into acting, filming, editing or just fancy getting involved in making a short film, this week is what it’s all about. Studio Theatre screening on Day 5. The 5 Day Film Challenge course is suitable for young people aged 11-17.
We have two 5 Day Film Challenges this year:

Musical Theatre for 11-16s
5 days to work on a medley of big musical numbers with a vocal coach and choreographer, before hitting the stage on Saturday 13th August to perform to an audience in the main house at Theatre Royal. The Musical Theatre course is suitable for young people aged 11 – 16. The performances will be shown as part of a celebration of the weeks’ work alongside the Playing Up course performances.

Playing Up for 11-16s
With a focus on Contemporary Theatre, in just 5 days the group will devise new work using foley, movement & spoken word before hitting the main stage to perform on Saturday 13th August. Playing Up is suitable for young people aged 11-16. The performances will be shown as part of a celebration of the weeks’ work alongside the Musial Theatre course performances.
