Summer School 2023

This summer, why not spend a week with us?!


We have opportunities for young people aged 5 – 17 to take part in fun packed weeks at Theatre Royal this summer. We have 5 day workshop weeks, a 4 day week for the summer Bank Holiday and a 6 day week of Musical Theatre which features a main house, on stage showcase performance on day 6! Play in a Week!

Over 5 days, our young theatre makers will create their own work to be performed for parents at an informal Studio show back on the last day. Supported by a drama practitioner and support worker, the group will decide what they make. It could be a comedy, tragedy or a musical but it will be all their own work!

Each Play in a Week course lasts for 5 days, runs from 9.30am – 3.30pm daily and costs £170

For 5-7 years

For 8 – 11 years

5 Day Film Challenge

Working with Hype films, budding film makers and actors create their own film shorts. From writing to directing, lighting to sound and everything else it takes to produce new work, there’s a chance to take part in the whole process, from initial idea to to screening on the final afternoon.

Each 5 Day Film Challenge course lasts for 5 days, runs from 9.30am – 3.30pm daily and costs £190

For 11 – 17 years

Musical Theatre

This 6 day, intensive, Musical Theatre week showcases the work of the group on the Theatre Royal main stage on Saturday 12th August! Working with a voice & singing coach and choreographer, it provides the opportunity to perform some of the best known and country’s favourite, musical numbers!

The Musical Theatre course lasts for 6 days, runs from 9.30am – 3.30pm daily* and costs £220**

For 11 – 15 years


Over 4 or 5 days join us to explore the world of Performing Arts, from a building tour to creating new work, directing to slap stick and lighting to sound. TRY let’s you sample lots of the exciting elements that go into working in theatre.

Our TRY courses last for 4 (no session on August bank holiday) or 5 days, run from 9.30am – 3.30pm daily and cost £140 (4 days) or £170 (5 days).
