Deputy Chief Electrician
Maternity cover (10 Feb 2020 – 1 Jan 2021)

 
 
Salary:            £33,525.70
                                               
Hours:            42.5 hours (annualised over 52 weeks)

 
A secondment/fixed term opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Chief Electrician who will be responsible for assisting with the smooth running of the stage electrics department, deputising for the Chief Electrician in their absence, and ensuring a first class production and technical service is delivered across all aspects of the Theatre Royal’s work.
  
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
 
  • Up to date knowledge of lighting and sound technologies and techniques
  • Strong ability to work in a team, to be flexible and multi skilled to ensure the effective utilisation of all resources
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to establish professional and personal credibility across the Theatre with visiting companies.
  • Understands the importance of providing a high quality experience for audiences/visiting companies through excellent stage management.
  • An interest and ability to be part of a strong team and assist where appropriate with the development of their professional skills and knowledge.
  • The ability to lead the team in the absence of the Chief Electrician.
  • Committed to continuing own professional development and knowledge, keeping up to date with technological advances.
  • Experience in key disciplines of technical work within an electrics department in a theatre or concert hall.

Casual Theatre Technicians
(Stage and Electrics Crew) 

 
Salary:           £11.25 per hour
                                               
Hours:           Zero hours (extreme flexibility required including weekend working)

 
The successful applicants are responsible to the Duty Stage Manager or Duty Chief Electrician working with the Stage or Electrics department to ensure a first class production and technical service is delivered across all aspects of the Theatre Royal’s work.
 
Essential and Desirable skills and knowledge required;
      
Essential
  • Extremely flexible to meet the needs of the touring companies and able to work at short notice, with infrequent and irregular shifts
  • Willing to work unsociable hours and on occasion through the night to meet ‘get in’ deadlines
  • Excellent time keeping and a reliable worker
  • Natural team player, putting the needs of the Trust first
  • Health and Safety conscious with some knowledge of fire evacuation, manual handling and working at heights
  • Able to work at heights and contribute to stage set up by handling various scenery pieces within health and safety regulations
  • Has the ability to operate stage equipment
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with different visiting company crews
  • Discreet and respectful of confidential theatrical or concert hall operations 

Desirable
  • Has some knowledge and skill in the use of stage equipment, sound and lighting desks
  • Has demonstrable skills in similar roles
  • Would like to pursue personal development in a theatrical or concert hall setting

Dresser

Newcastle Theatre Royal Trust invites applications for Dressers to work at the Theatre Royal
 
Salary:            £8.21 per hour
                                               
Hours:           Zero hours (extreme flexibility required including weekend working)

Principle responsibilities

As a Dresser / Wardrobe Assistant, providing support for all productions, to include:
 
  • Working on get-ins and get-outs
  • Support for visiting wardrobe teams
  • Laundry and ironing
  • Dressing during performances and rehearsals
  • Wearing appropriate clothing or ‘blacks’ during performances
  • Ensuring that working areas and equipment are kept in a clean, tidy and safe condition; assistance with routine stage and building maintenance
  • Undertaking such other relevant duties as may be requested from time to time by the Stage Manager or Deputy Stage Managers
  • At all times to maintain the confidentiality of the business or affairs of the Theatre Royal and visiting companies
