Heritage Fund | Theatre Royal
For nearly 175 years, the people of the North East have been proud guardians of the Theatre Royal, looking after the Grade 1 listed building through ever-changing times for the generations to come. And now the task of continuing this tradition falls to us.
In 2008 we appointed Dr David Wilmore, the leading theatre historian and authority on the Theatre Royal to produce a new conservation plan for the Theatre, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Based on a detailed study of our history, David has provided a blueprint for the longterm conservation of the Grade 1 Listed Theatre. As well as conservation, the plan will enable us to restore lost historic features, install new seating and make other improvements, ensuring the glories of our 19th century auditorium meet the needs of our 21st century audiences.
The Theatre Royal is an independent charitable trust and to help meet the recommendations of the plan we need your help.
