 The
£7m expansion of the Theatre is on schedule and we would
like to thank everyone involved in the successful completion
of Phase 1 of the project, delivering an extended stage, a new
Fly Tower and Flying System (which moves scenery on, off and
around the stage).
Phase 2 of the project began in early January and by the
end of August 2007 we will have transformed the old Barclays
building into a new Learning Centre, Box Office, Bistro and
Reception Room, the Olivier Suite.
This is a historic development of the landmark Grade 1 Listed
Building, built in
1837 and regarded by many as the finest theatre building in
the UK. Our major funding
partners, ONE North East, Newcastle City Council, Northern
Rock Foundation and
Arts Council England formed the foundation of our development
campaign, whilst
individual audience members have now contributed sums totalling
almost £100,000.
